Italweber Elettra transformers: the importance of legislation

Transformers are static machines that, despite being "dated", still play a role of primary importance within electromechanical applications. The galvanic separation between the windings, which guarantees the disjunction between the primary and secondary circuits in a system or in an electrical panel, and the possibility of varying the input and output voltages, adapting them to different needs, are the main application functions.

These characteristics offer the possibility of tackling different markets, especially sectors related to automation, machine builders, machining centers or large production lines; in fact, these applications require an adequate power supply which, often, is different depending on the country of destination.

The regulatory part can also differ according to the location of the end user of the product, in the face of which the correct choice of the type of approval required is of fundamental importance.

Often when we talk about approved products, in particular for transformers intended for the American/Canadian market, we confuse "compliance" with real compliance with UL/CSA regulations; The simple wording "insulation system" is not synonymous with a product subjected to specific tests as required by the certifying body but only indicates that the components have no negative interaction with each other and in particular with the main product of the system itself, i.e. the paint. all the homologations of Italweber Elettra transformers are the result of analyses and tests carried out by individual bodies, which subject the products to all the tests required by the reference standard (e.g.: in the case of UL, version 5085).

The classic way to produce an approved transformer is to use products that are part of an insulation system from the start, components that once assembled offer ample guarantees of mechanical resistance and to the different operating temperature classes.

The importance of a correct choice of basic components is particularly evident when it comes to maintaining temperatures, and consequently losses, within the limits required by the standard; The correct proportion between the fundamental copper/aluminium and iron components is specifically determined by an exclusive calculation program that is continuously implemented according to the tests carried out on transformers made.
